The Role
YouView is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our growing team. You'll directly contribute to the quality and success of a product used by millions of users.
This role requires a strong technical background, a passion for quality, and the ability to develop and execute comprehensive test strategies. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated test suites, performing exploratory testing, and analysing test results to identify and resolve defects.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable automated test suites using Python to validate functionality across UI, middleware, and backend services.
Test Strategy & Planning: Collaborate with product owners, developers, and other stakeholders to define and execute comprehensive test strategies
Reporting & Analysis: Analyse test results, identify trends, and provide clear and concise reports to stakeholders.
Defect Management: Identify, document, and track defects using Jira. Work with developers to ensure timely resolution.
Test Environment Management: Contribute to the setup and maintenance of test environments.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve the testing process and contribute to the development of best practices.
Mentorship: Mentor junior test engineers and share knowledge and expertise.
Exploratory Testing: Conduct exploratory testing to uncover unexpected issues and edge cases that may not be caught by automated tests.
Release management: Manage software releases to internal teams and partner companies, ensuring adherence to QA best practices.
Personal development: Continuously grow your technical expertise and contribute to building a world-class software engineering environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
Programming: Strong proficiency in Python for automation and test development.
Testing Principles: Strong understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices.
Version Control: Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
Agile Methodologies: Experience working in an Agile development environment (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience: Demonstrable experience in software testing, with a strong focus on automation.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Data and Analytics: Exposure to SQL and modern analytics dashboards, including Kibana.
Artificial Intelligence: Experience using GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini models
Cloud Services: Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS)
Automation Tools: Experience with test automation tools such as Selenium, Playwright, or similar.
